MTHFR is an enzyme that allows folate, or vitamin B9, to support a process known as methylation. Methylation is important to mental health, cardiovascular health, sports performance, and preventing cancer, just to name a few. In this episode, I show you how to find your MTHFR genetic status. I also discuss how the various different genetic combinations impact you and how you can leverage that information to determine how strictly you should follow the dietary recommendations I’ll outline in the next episode.

  1. Chris, this has been an interesting series on MTHFR. I took a look at my downloaded 23&Me data and I show double mutations for both snps and one mutation for MTHFD1. Normal for SLC19a1. Looks like testing is order, though I wonder if the Doc will think I’m nuts asking for them. Fortunately I am an almost daily egg and greens eater. Do have an opinion on oxalate levels in greens (spinach) eaten on a daily basis?

    I did have plasma homocysteine levels checked a few years ago and they were within the range listed 11.7 — ref 0.0-15.
